Medische diagnostiek staat niet stil. Ook IBD plukt daar de vruchten van. Met klinische chemie kunnen medicijnspiegels in het bloed gemonitord worden, in de toekomst mogelijks zelfs via een simpele vingerprik. Andere mogelijke toekomstige innovatieve technieken zijn darmechografie voor diagnostiek & monitoring en camerapillen als vervanging van een endoscopie.
